NEWSLETTER FROM ATHENA

Hello everyone,
Almost a year has passed since we started on our exciting trip in Charleston, SC and we were soon supposed to return to Norway. BUT, we enjoy Athena and this cruising life so much, that we have decided to stay at least until X-mas - most likely till next summer.
We have many great memories, and we love Athena. She sailes great, is very comfortabel in the water and we all enjoy living onboard.
We are also a lot of experiences richer - which has turned Espen into an fairly good engineer, considering he hardly had repaired even a bike before!
After sailing her from the States to Granada last summer, we have spent a long time in Tobago and Puerto la Cruz, before we headed up north again to the islands up to St. Martin. After getting a new Yamaha outboard, new generator, laptop, camera and much more (!), we enjoyed many of the beautiful Leeward and Windward islands. A trip to the Botanical Garden in Des Haies, Guadeloupe, and to the Indian River on Dominica were specially 2 great adventures! In addition to all the great new friends we have gotten all over!
We have also had 3 great visits from Norway, and it seems like they all have enjoyed sailing with us. In a few weeks some other good friends from Norway will join us in Puerto la Cruze and sail with us up to Bonnair, after stops in Tortuga, Los Roches and Aves. And just a couple of days after they leave us, our oldest son, Erik and his girlfriend, Cecilie, will come. And we are all very excited about our new visits!
In Aug/Setp. we are planning a months trip to Merida, to explore the area, as well as learn some Spanish, before we head westwards. We will return to the ABC islands, and then go to Cartahegna, St. Blaaz, Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico. and then probably back to US.
Right now we are back in Grenada, and are getting our rigg tuned, before we proceed to Isla Margarita and Puerto la Cruz. We hope we will see you soon again, and know at least that some of you will head our direction!
Safe sailing and take care.
Best regards
Thomas, Espen and Eva

Hola,
Since new year, we have sailed from Panama to the beautiful Bay Islands. We are currently anchored outside Josh Cay, a wonderful, exotic little cay with a small resort, with 10 rooms, an open restaurant and bar, a lot of birds, rabbits and they even have a fenced in area where they keep their "pets"; sharks, big turtles, lobsters , stingraes and other fishes. And here they are welcoming yachts with open arms, and are offering free water, ice, internett etc. So we are enjoying the great island and big umbrella drinks!
On our way from Colon, we stopped at Providencia, another great island. We had a couple of nice trips around the island, and also a nice horse ride one afternoon up the hills and on a beautiful beach.
We also had a stop over at the Vivvieros, a reef area between Providencia and the Bay islands. Here we traded lobster, crab and fish with the local fishermen and had a great feast with our Norwegian / Swedish friends at Liv 1, that we are sailing together with. We ate as much lobster as we were able to, and had still a lot of leftovers for the next couple of days.
We are planning to haul out in La Ceiba, only 70 miles from here, on the mainland Honduras, to get our bottom paintedj. From here we are also planning a trip to Copan, a Maya site.
We will keep in touch, and hope to hear from you, either at the log book at our home page, or by mail.
Hope you all are doing well.
Best regards
Thomas, Espen and Eva
Dear friends,
After 2 fantastic years out sailing, our adventure is unfortunately soon over - for this time!
If it was up to me, I would have continued this great life, but the boys want to go home, and I guess it is time for Thomas to go back to regular school! And me to get back at work......
But we have all enjoyed this time tremendously! We have got to visit almost all of the Caribean islands, dived at the most beautiful sites in the world; Belize, Bonaire etc., been in the jungle of Columbia, visited both the mountains and the lowland in Venezuela, and got to know many new, great cultures (incl. Maya, Kugi and Kona Indians) - all over the Caribean. Not least, we have met a lot of great locals and you guys.....
I don`t remember where we were last time we wrote, but after Panama and Honduras, we sailed to Belize, Mexico, Cuba (a very special place and a great experience) and then sailed up to Fort Lauderdale in April.
We had Athena out for sale both in Norway and with a broker in Fort lauderdale. And a few weeks ago, we sold the boat to a Norwegian, who wants to do exactly the same as we have enjoyed! He was therefore open where to take over the boat, so we are now sailing her down to Bonaire and finally to Curacau where the new owner will start his adventure July 1.
We have been very lucky with everything, -and hopefully the new owner will think the same and be as happy as we have been on board Athena! We will certainly do everything we can to provide this!
Right now, we are in Montigo Bay, after a wonderful sail down the Cuban coast, Grand Cayman and now Jamaica.
We will probably stay here a few more days, before we proceed and (maybe) make a stop at an Haiti soutern island and then a long sail south to Bonaire. (If any of you have any experience of Jamaica or Haiti, we would appreciate hearing from you!)
We gonna miss you all!! But we really hope you will stay in touch!
We would love to hear from you, where you are, what you are exploring, and if you ever are in Europe, you should definately take the trip up to Norway and visit us!!
In 6-7 years, when Thomas has finished school and mooved out of the house, we most likely will go sailing again!
And it is great to have something to look forward to!
In the meantime, we have all the great memories and your adventures!
